Project Bal Aarogya - Mid Day Meal Scheme | Nutritional Deficiencies
Major nutritional deficiencies
Major nutritional deficiencies affecting young children in India are:
  • Protein-Energy malnutrition
  • Iron Deficiency Anemia
  • Vitamin A Deficiency
  • Iodine Deficiency Disorders (IDD)

As millions of children flock back to school after the summer vacation, it is worth examining what mid-day meals have achieved and how they can be improved. Even now many children are prevented from attending school by their parents as they want the children with them while begging to increase the sympathy of the public to give them alms. To stop this, teachers themselves go to the colonies while the assembly and prayers are going on in the school and force the parents to send the children to school. The children are glad to attend as they can look forward to a full meal.
