Need for the Nursing Assistant Course

The world was caught recently in the cruel grip of Covid-19 including India. Among many recourses, inadequacy of trained human resource like Nurses was greatly experienced along with other medical personnel.Thus rising skill gap has emerged to be one of the key barriers in healthcare sector. Skill gap in healthcare is very high across various health workforce categories in India. The burden of rising healthcare costs and rapidly increasing population has further widened this gap, making it difficult for country to equate healthcare needs with existing means and trained personnel. Thus, there is increasing need for training ‘Health care Givers’ for aged persons mainly in cities where parents are left alone to mend for themselves.

This lack of qualified and trained professionals is one of the major challenges for the Indian health care Society. The objective behind proposed course is to ‘skill’ and enhance the quality of healthcare professionals primarily in “care giving” in India because the concept of patient caregiving at the moment in India is initial stage.

A six months certificate in the Nursing Assistant course includes classroom teaching and practical training in a well established hospital will provide‘hands on’ exposure to health sector and ‘patient caregivers’ to elderly. The training will be conducted at the well-established hospital of Hamdard. They will also issue certificate to passing out candidates by the JamiaHamdard University so that it will have credibility.

7. The course is ideal for students from vulnerable and marginalized families who aspire to have career in health care and provide care to elders. The project outcome will demonstrate economic empowerment to Girls from low-income families to live a life of dignity, apart from serving the ailing society.

Course Structure


The course will provide accredited skill building for 10th Standard pass out eligible students and it is a skill enhancement programs for existing healthcare professionals. We shall cover approx40 girls in one Batch.

Course methodology will include employed both theory and practical classes followed by on-job training to enable students to become certified Nursing Assistantwith confidence. Students will be trained in the particular domain of patient care and to preterm all the duties of a Nurse. They will be trained in the Hospital so that they will have proper environment as health care provider.  We focus on guiding students with the required employability skills like English speaking, personality developmentetc. (copy of syllabus enclosed)

Such trained girls will highly be useful in the pandemic situation like ‘Covid -19’ when acute shortage felt was fell during last 2 years and great support during normal time

Student Learning Outcomes

  • Function effectively as an entry-level Nursing Assistant.
  • Follow safety and infection control procedures for protection of patients/residents, self,and others.
  • Apply specialized job skills and abilities that may be required in the sub-acute care,
  • long term care, individual’s home, and hospital settings.

  • Provide respectful care to patients/residents by complying with patient rights and

respecting diversity.

  • Utilize effective communication techniques with patients and members of the

interdisciplinary healthcare team.

Ø How to deal with special needs of acutely ill patients and pediatric care.
Ø The legal aspects of the nursing assistant field, and the types of abuses to look for when assessing patients.
